Patients who undergo stoma surgery experience difficulties in adapting physically and psychologically. The priority is to support them in learning self-care for successful rehabilitation and psychosocial adaption to a new life. In order to do this, it is important to provide ostomates with repetitive reinforcement education on self-care in a continuous and individual manner, not just to increase knowledge or perform related skills. This study aims to evaluate the effects of ostomy management reinforcement education (OMRE) in ostomates and to identify the optimal frequency of reinforcement education using an equivalent control group post-test design. Participants were 60 ostomates admitted to a university hospital after ostomy formation surgery, and they were randomly assigned to a control and two experimental groups of this study. The OMRE was given to the control group (n = 20), experimental group 1 (n = 20), and experimental group 2 (n = 20) once, twice, and three times, respectively. Participants' self-care knowledge, self-efficacy, and ability of stoma appliance change were evaluated before and after the OMRE. Major results of this study were as follows: the self-care knowledge score of post-test was higher than the pretest in the control, experimental 1, and experimental two groups (P < 0.001). The self-efficacy score of post-test was higher than the pretest in the control, experimental 1, and experimental 2 groups (P < 0.001). The self-care knowledge score according to the frequency of OMRE did not differ among the control, experimental 1, and experimental 2 groups (F = 1.921, P = 0.156). The self-efficacy score according to the frequency of OMRE was significantly different between the control and experimental groups (F = 8.616, P = 0.001), but there was no difference between the experimental 1 and experimental 2 groups (Scheffe's post-hoc analysis: a < b, c). The ability of stoma appliance change score according to the frequency of OMRE was significantly different between the control and experimental groups (F = 49.546, P < 0.001), but there was no difference between the experimental 1 and experimental 2 groups (Scheffe's post-hoc analysis: a < b, c). Results of this study suggested that the OMRE was effective for promoting hospitalised ostomates' self-care knowledge, self-efficacy, and ability of stoma appliance change, and two sessions of the OMRE was the most effective. Findings of this study may be useful in planning education programmes designed to improve self-care ability for hospitalised ostomates.  相似文献

Brochures are a useful supplement to patient education. There is increasing evidence that they are an effective medium to support patient satisfaction, adherence, and empowerment. This study aims to produce reliable data on how much patients with venous leg ulcer (VLU) may profit from a brochure that focuses on VLU and on measures and aims of the related compression therapy. The evaluation took part from October 2018 until March 2019 and included 136 patients with VLU and related compression therapy. They were randomly sorted into a case group and a control group of 68 patients each. The case group received a brochure about venous disease and compression therapy and filled in a questionnaire after reading. The questions ranged from basic knowledge about VLU and compression therapy to aspects of self‐care. The control group answered the same questions without previous reading of the brochure. The results show that in almost every aspect, the patients in the case group were better informed about their diseases, the compression therapy, and how they may support the measures adequately. This study suggests that patients with VLU may profit from a brochure that explains their disease and the related compression therapy. Better knowledge and understanding may strengthen their empowerment and adherence.  相似文献

Schizophrenia is a chronic mental pathology with polymorphous symptoms that have an invalidating impact on an emotional, interpersonal, behavioural and social level. In certain cases this pathology can increase the risk of self-harm or harm to others, making it necessary to put protocoles in place for specifically-adapted treatment, put forward notably by care units that deal with dangerous patients. The patient's therapeutic education, orientated towards acquiring knowledge about the illness and skills for dealing with it in day-to-day life, is now a recognised practice, having proven its effectiveness in the treatment of chronic psychiatric patients. There is significant interest in this method for treating dangerous mental patients. The medical profession has a marked vocational sense that is closely linked to its ethical dimension. However, there are doubts about the role that undergraduate studies are playing in their development. In order to encourage reflection on this issue, a seminar was held with students and teachers, developed in 3 phases: a) free presentation by students about what they considered to be the medical vocation; b) presentation by professors of the theoretical framework of medical education, followed by the viewing of several scenes of films directed by Steven Spielberg that facilitate reflection on the meaning of the ethical and human components of medicine, and c) open discussion between students and teachers. The main conclusions were analysed: it is worth creating spaces for reflection on the vocational dimension of medicine throughout undergraduate studies. This, in some way, should already be considered in the selection and access procedures to medical school. In the teaching task it is essential that the lecturers are seen as role models, as well as providing individualised tutoring that includes vocational development. Thus, it is necessary to promote training that goes beyond the acquisition of knowledge and skills, paying attention to the management of emotions, the approach to the ethical problems, and the education of attitudes. Early contact with clinical activity, from the beginning of studies is considered a decisive factor to motivate students before the immense theoretical burden they have to face.  相似文献

The increase in smartphone ownership by underserved populations provides a unique opportunity to use technology to improve health. Health apps are often free and have programs to empower individuals to engage in health promotion and self-management of chronic illnesses. To promote the use of health apps in an underserved community, investigators provided brief educational sessions to teach individuals to how access and use health apps. Educational sessions increased health app knowledge, comfort in using health apps, and likelihood of using health apps.  相似文献
